Hi, we are Christie and Rick Bramblett. We along with our youngest two sons Matthew and Benjamin are the chaos controllers here on the farm. If you are wondering how we ended up here doing what we are doing and have some time to read I have shared the story of how it unfolded. There have been no straight roads in our journey, always a winding, twisting path that leads to another fork in the road. To be here where we are looking back I doubt I would have believed you if you told me this is what we would be doing. But here we are working harder than ever and loving it! We have no background in farming, we grew up in suburban subdivisions. I would say our first steps on this path would be in our early 20s when we had each lost a parent to cancer. During this time several of our close friends were also dealing with the same thing. We started questioning why all the sudden cancer was showing up in people so young. How much of this was a result of our food and the chemicals used in producing it. It sent us into the world of organics. Of course in the early 2000s there was not a lot of choices for organic fruits and vegetables. Which meant growing our own in our garden. It started small and over the years grew to include a kitchen garden with lots of medicinal herbs, a terraced vegetable garden, blueberry bushes, fruit trees, raspberry and blackberry patches, and tea plants. Around 2014 I started seeing the leaked videos of conditions inside the traditional chicken farms and the conditions of the animals. It was wrong and I was contributing to this when I bought eggs. I began learning about keeping chickens and what is involved. I am embarrassed to say how ignorant I was. But we started our little backyard flock and I was hooked! Chickens were amazing, they knew their names, could be taught basic commands, loved to be with us and were actually affectionate! I was warned about chicken math and our couple little hens grew. However we were bound by rules of no roosters and only 8 hens. It got us thinking and talking more and more about our desire to have land where we could raise animals and grow our food. Then we discovered Joel Salatin. Talk about fanning a flame, those embers bust into a fire. We were ready to start a permaculture farm! We began looking at land. Our original idea was finding some land nearby where we could just go back and forth slowly building the place. The circle kept getting bigger and we kept looking farther and farther out as we didn't have a big budget. Finally after lots of disappointments we realized we needed to start looking at jumping all in. We had done all we could on our two acres and its was time to say if we are serious about wanting to do this now is the time. In 2023 we made the move from Canton to Newborn. It's been a whirlwind of activity since moving and I don't see things slowing down for a while. But here we are three years since moving and launching our little farm.
