IPP's are a wonderful breed of pigs.
We have a registered breeding pair, Atlas is our boar and Jewel our sow. They give us some pretty cute bacon seeds!
We sell the piglets around 9 weeks.
We also will grow out a pig and sell it to you when it's ready to be processed.
The meat is amazing. It's a beautiful red color, and on the lean side. I use the ground pork for making sausage as well as in any recipe that uses ground beef.
If you are considering Idaho Pasture Pigs I think they are one of the easiest farm animals to have. They are easy to contain, we use Premier One electric Pig netting. The pig netting can run off a solar energizer or a plug in energizer. Which makes it easy to move them around. Pigs are very smart and learn to respect the fence early on. IPPs will do well in the woods or on pasture. They are very laid back, and friendly. They are not prone to illness, or parasites like goats or sheep. They have minimal predators. It takes around 12 months for them to reach processing weight. We feed ours Tucker Milling Nature Crest Swine which is a no soy, non GMO feed. The hardest part about raising them is the day you take them to the processor.
